Volume 2 April - June 2010 Number 2

Delegates Report to SIA 21 Area Assembly, Jacksonville, IL March 7, 2010

Welcome to Area Assembly. I love Area Assemblies.

I have had the pleasure to visit three districts since the first of the year. Attended my home District 19 in Springfield twice, District 15 here in Jacksonville and District 14 in Fairview Heights and O'Fallon for 2011 SIA 21 Spring Conference planning meetings. I participated in 2010 East Central Region Conference of Delegates Past and Present February 12-14, 2010 in Kalamazoo, MI.

Contributions to AA World Services were 2.5% less for 2009 that 2008. However, I am happy to report that the percentage of groups contributing from SIA was 36.44% which is more than 2008 when 33.05% of SIA 21 groups contributed. Thank you. I have group contributions by district lists. DCMs please pick them up. AA World Services were cut in 2009, for example 4-5-9 is now published quarterly instead of bi-monthly with no more Early Bird Editions after the General Service Conference. Publication of Directories was suspended in 2009. They will resume this year with discussion of them being published every other year alternating between Eastern US and Western US. AA World Services on average spent $150.00 per group for services and about $15.00 per member. For services to the fellowship to be maintained and increased in carrying the message to the alcoholic your contributions are needed. Please spread the word.

In 2009, 2,212,346 units of literature were sold. This is up 5% over 2008. Big Books accounted for 1,224,346 of that or 55%.

Grapevine subscription went down by about 9,000. I was happy to see one District vote to provide four subscriptions of Corrections activities. With the new non-stapled subscriptions to Corrections and Treatment facilities are another way to carry the message inside the walls in a time of more need that volunteers.

The final agenda and background material for the 60th General Service Conference has arrived and been distributed by email or USPS to Districts and Area Committees. Copies of the agenda, list of items tabled and list of items not considered are being provided to DCMs today with their contribution list. I have been studying this material. I have gone through about half of the 890 pages. If you have comments of opinions on these items, pleas sent them to me by mail or email. I have a new email address for AA correspondence: delp59sia21@gmail.com I have a few extra copies also.

With Love & Service,

Dean S., Delegate, P59/A21, So. IL

****Discovery ~ Noon Group****

The Noon Group celebrates it's 10 year anniversary this month. The group was started early in 1999 and registered with the General Service Office as the Nooners Group on July 1, 1999 with 20 members. Early in 2009 the group changed its name to the Noon Group.

The Noon Group meets at Discovery 7 days a week at, you guessed it, NOON!

The Noon Group offers a variety of meetings including regular discussion, step specific, and a 12 step/tradition meeting rounding out the week on Sunday. The group is home to many a old-timer and newcomers alike with a host of members in between.

The Group also hosts a monthly birthday/speaker meeting on the last Friday of each month. The meeting speaker is one who's birthday falls within the same month as the meeting. A pizza pie is served for lunch in place of the traditional cake.

Not So Mighty Anymore

In keeping with the 7th tradition which states: "Every A.A. group ought to be fully self supporting, declining outside contributions" District 19 would like to remind you that A buck in the basket does not go quite as far as it used to. In fact The Almighty Dollar in 2005 was worth approximately 16 cents at 1963 prices.

Please keep this in mind when passing the basket and remember that your contributions go to ensure that the message is carried on to the Alcoholic who still suffers just as it was so freely passed on to you.

March/April 2010 Bridging the Gap Newsletter

We have more exciting news: Pam and Lynn met with employees of Contact Ministries on Wednesday March 3, 2010 and we were welcomed with open arms. Bridging the Gap will now be doing 12 step calls with clients there, as well as possible rides and temporary contacts for clients who think they have a drinking problem. Thank you Bruce B. for inviting us.

  • As you can see from the top of this edition of the newsletter this is for both April - June as we will be having a meeting for these months.  Also it has been decided to change the meeting time to 6:15pm. This will hopefully open up opportunities for more people to join or attend.  We look forward to sharing this great experience with someone.

  • This month’s meeting attendance was down to only 12 people.  With the New Year it is the hope of the group that many people will show an interest and begin coming (pleas bring someone with you to share this service work with).

  • Rides have really caught on at Triangle.  Those in treatment are utilizing the list and contacting members of AA for rides.

  • Both Gateway  and Triangle overall have had good meeting attendance and continue to do very well.

  • We are in need of facilitators for the full months of April, May, and June 2010 for every facility. Please contact Pam, Lynn or Sara and put your service to work.

  • Triangle Center groups are every Saturday from 1 until 2 p.m. They require one person to have two or more years of sobriety the rest of the panel does not need to have a certain amount of sobriety.

  • Gateway groups are the first and third Saturday of every month from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m.

  • Please contact B.L. if you are a man who would like to either facilitate or be a part of a group that goes into the Salvation Army ARC on the last Saturday of the month from 6 until 7 p.m.

  • McFarland's is on Monday evenings. Please Contact Dan C. if you are willing to go to McFarland's so that you can get the proper paperwork needed.

Volunteering

To ensure that you can be contacted please make sure that Pam S., Lynn P. or Sara B. have all of your current contact information

If you have been on a list or would like to be put on the list for providing rides from a treatment center please contact Judy M. to ensure that she has the correct time you can provide the ride and we have your updated information.

Please feel free to contact info@aaspringfield.org if you need to get forms or anything else! We want you to feel a part of this group! If you are feeling left out than reach out and we can better help you. Thanks for all that you do and please remember that our next BTG meeting will be held as follows: April 29th at the Alano at 6:15pm, May 27th at the Alano at 6:15 pm, and June 24th at the Easy Does It Club at 6:15pm. Please come and bring someone along! The more the merrier!

“Service” is the Secret.  “Unity”  in the community.   “Recovery” plant a seed
